In August 2020, our colleague, attorney-at-law Antra Kalēja, received recognition from the Ministry of Justice for her work and involvement in providing free legal aid in cases of child abduction.
Antra is one of six sworn advocates with whom the Ministry of Justice and the Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates signed a cooperation agreement. The advocates undertook to provide pro bono (free of charge) legal assistance to applicants living abroad in child abduction and access rights proceedings in connection with the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980.
The cooperation agreement was signed to optimize and improve the institute of legal representation in Latvia, as well as providing parents of children living abroad with high-quality legal assistance in situations when a child is illegally held in Latvia.
